Trent Dahlin Tutoring

One-on-one SAT & ACT mentorship, online

I wasn't born a good test-taker. I learned it, and I'll teach it to you.

Some tutors were naturally good test-takers; they scored in the 99th percentile the first time. I, on the other hand, had to learn how to go from a decent score to a great score. Now I can teach you how to get there.

Every student who has sat an official test with me has beaten their baseline. Average gain, +225 on the SAT scale.

Look up.

Know where you want to go: a score, a school, a version of yourself that can do hard things. On our first call, that's the whole conversation.

Climb up.

Build the skills, one deliberate rep at a time, until the test feels automatic. Two ups. That's the whole method.

How it works

A diagnosis, a written plan, and a program with a beginning and an end.

No open-ended hourly tutoring. You'll know which test, what target, which dates, and what it costs before you commit to anything.

A free 20-minute call

You, your student, and me. I'll ask a lot of questions, then tell you honestly what I'd do in your shoes, including which test your student is built for.

Free. No decision required.

A diagnosis and a written plan

The program opens with a proctored practice test and a written plan: which test, a target score, the exact test dates, and the two or three skills worth the most points.

Included in the program.

A 12-week program

Twelve weekly two-hour sessions, three proctored practice tests with written reports, about three hours of homework a week, notes to you after every session, and a monthly parent call.

$150 an hour: $3,600 for 12 sessions, or $3,000 for a 10-session program. Scholarship waitlist →

Results

Real students, official tests, every one of them counted.

Official scores and practice scores are reported separately, everyone is counted, and the rules are written down on the results page.

*SAT and ACT students are averaged together using the official ACT/College Board concordance; practice scores are first attempts on official practice forms, and repeated tests are thrown out.

Philosophy

You don't need to be born with it.

I give every student a free copy of Talent Is Overrated. Your score has almost nothing to do with innate ability and almost everything to do with the skills you build through deliberate practice. The difference between high scorers and low scorers is automaticity, and anyone can develop it.

My story

Two keys.

My first SAT score was a disappointment, and my family couldn't afford a tutor. I taught myself the first key, deliberate practice, and scored much higher on the ACT. It took a performing career in New York to learn the second key: a mentor. I may have scored below my potential; my students won't.

One seat is always reserved. I keep at least one student on my roster who can't afford my rate and give them the same mentorship at a price within their budget. Join the waitlist, or help me add a second seat.
